A Note About the Upcoming Crank In

It’s another beautiful day here in Cape Girardeau! We are so looking forward to hosting you at our Crank In April 1-3.

I am sure that some may have heard that there’s been a change in venue….so many people signed up that there is simply not enough space at the Victorian Inn! We have moved it to the Plaza Conference Center. I am attaching a property map to this email. The first page is the map of the Victorian Inn, which has no elevators. The second page is the map of the whole area, where you can see that the Plaza Conference Center is not very far from the Victorian Inn at all. The Holiday Inn Express is closer, but I am under the understanding that it is more expensive. At this time, I am trying to make arrangements to borrow one of those fancy golf carts to transport those that have difficulty walking even short distances, but if I can’t get the golf cart, I will have my DH with my big old suv to carry anyone that needs carrying! Remember you are coming to Cape Girardeau….not Las Vegas…it’s not that big!!
Please remember that you are our guests and we are doing everything we can possibly think of to treat you as such….right down to having the room available on Thursday evening for set up, having young people at your service to carry the things from your vehicle to wherever you would like them to (we loaned a machine to our local juvenile department for their clients to use on inclement days to perform community services such as making baby hats for the hospital, socks for nursing home patients, and scarves to keep people warm, so they are going to perform community services for us….yes, they are young people with bad attitudes, but I think they will enjoy helping us out [albeit secretly] and having someone speak nicely to them and grateful for their services will surely brighten their day.)
And just so you know, by moving it to the convention center, the event will be catered by Ray’s and let me just tell you, they don’t do gray meat and rubber chicken at their meals!! The food has even passed my mother’s muster (not an easy task).
I hope this email dispels the rumors going around. Please know that if you have any concerns, I will be happy to address them, I am an email or a phone call away!

We are keeping the room at the Vic (which is a really great hotel) so that the night owls and the early risers will have the opportunity to try out the machine in their prime work time!!!
I look forward to meeting each and every one of you!
Make today GREAT!

Sneak Peek Crank In in Cape Girardeau PS

I forgot to mention SHOP TOURS!  We will be taking shop tours all day on Friday, so that you guys can see the machines running...and meet the guys who are making the Erlbacher Gearhart Machines.

Sneak Preview Crank In in Cape Girardeau is Almost Here

Sneak Preview Erlbacher Gearhart Crank In April 1-3, 2011 Cape Girardeau, Missouri
Friday 9-5, Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 10-3

Well, final preparations are underway for the Sneak Preview Crank In here in sunny (well, today anyway) Cape Girardeau!  The exciting news is that it has grown so much we've had to move the actual meeting space to the convention center next door so there will be enough room for all of the Crankers!  We are keeping the meeting space at the Victorian Inn so that there will be a place to congregate and crank for those night owls and early risers....

Here's how it's going to go down....we will have demos every hour on the hour (except for the lunch hour)..they will demo for about 15 minutes then circulate through the room to help anyone that has questions on the technique they've just demonstrated.  The teachers are highly qualified and are going to demo things such as the Russian Join, Ribber Class, Toe Up Toe, Heels, Lace, Kitchner, Scotch Heels, Socks My Way, Cables, Fair Isle, Bind Offs, Flat Fabric, Preemie Hats and Fingerless Gloves.  There will be ample opportunities to try out the Erlbacher Gearhart Knitting Machine!!

If you are planning on attending and have not sent a registration form, please do so!!  I need to know how many people will be there for the food count....and let me just tell you, the food is by Ray's of Kelso....it's worth the trip!

Please email me to recieve the registration form!!!!

A Picture of the Erlbacher Gearhart Sock Knitting Machine

Here's a picture of Peewee knitting on the all new Erlbacher Gearhart Sock Knitting Machine!   Since our last post, we have been busy making socks!  Everyone I know will be getting them for Christmas and the guys in the shop keep hinting about the upcoming hunting season and cold toes....
Some of our followers say they do not do Facebook, so I (Jamie) have decided to update on the blog and get Grayson to do the Facebook updating!

So right now we are still working on getting the ribber made.  The parts are coming together and we are almost there.  I am nervous, because I am the one who has to learn how to actually use it....but since heels and toes no longer make me have a hot flash, I think I'll be able to figure it out...

Since Pete and Deb took our CSM to the crank in, Peewee has been tweaking and adjusting on our machine...sometimes while I am working!!  Like today, he brought up a new V Cam and switched it out mid-sock!  Not a good idea....Just call that insta-hot-flash!

Everyday we talk to more and more people who are excited about our machine!  They offer lots of  advice, suggestions and encouragement.  Yesterday, a new friend from Indiana came to visit and offer invaluable information!  We love visitors!

We are so excited about our CSM.  And I want to thank the bloggers who gave suggestions on our last post.  I have been having so much fun making the mock rib!  As you can see in the picture, Peewee is showcasing the 2 1 rib.  I tell you, he's a knitting machine!

If you have questions, please ask!  We aren't sure what you want to know, so just ask and I will do my best to answer them!  Also, tell your sock making friends about our blog!!

Thanks again to everyone who wishes us well! Your responses and suggestions are invaluable to us!

Happy Cranking!

Calling all CSM Fans!!

Greetings Sock Knitting Machine Fans!  I am Jamie, daughter number 4 of Peewee's clan.  It was/is my job to make the socks on the CSM...I am thrilled to report that the old Gearhart has been put to pasture, I am using the first prototype of the all new Erlbacher Gearhart CSM!  However, I need your help.

Question 1:  What's your favorite brand of sock yarn?  We would like to partner up with a yarn company/supplier but there are so many out there, I'd like to know your favorites!

Question 2:  Can you share your EASY sock patterns with me?  Remember that I am a newbie and that sometimes I end up with a big old wad of mess that I just have to wind back up into a center pull ball!  I'd like to know how to start off a sock without having to hang a hem...is that possible?  I'd also like to know the very easiest way to close a toe....

I can't wait to hear your comments/suggestions/responses!

In the meanwhile, I'll be cranking away....
